Neighborly Hauling offers four dumpster sizes in West Michigan — 12, 17, 21, and 25 yard bins — sized for home cleanouts, remodels, yard projects, and contractor work across Grand Rapids and Kent County.
Homeowner Guide · Grand Rapids & West MichiganWhether you’re clearing out a garage in Wyoming or tackling a fall cleanout in East Grand Rapids, the last thing you want is the wrong size dumpster in your driveway. Too small and you’re calling for another haul. Too large and you’re paying for empty space.
Here’s a plain-language guide to finding the right fit — no guesswork, no phone calls required.
Find Your Size in 30 Seconds
Weekend projects, yard waste, single-room cleanouts. Fits in tight single-car driveways.
The most popular size. Handles shingles, siding, or several rooms of household junk.
Go-to for big renovations, estate cleanouts, and moving prep. Holds about 13 pickup truck loads.
Our largest bin. Best for bulky furniture, estate cleanouts, or multi-room projects with mixed heavy debris.

Three Things to Consider Before You Book
Project Scope
Small cleanouts and weekend projects fit comfortably in a 12 yard. Medium remodels and roofing jobs are a 17 yard sweet spot. Larger renovations and whole-home cleanouts point to the 21 or 25 yard. When in doubt, size up by one — a second bin always costs more than a larger one upfront.
Type of Debris
Heavy materials — shingles, concrete, dirt — fill weight limits fast. Go smaller and stay under the limit rather than paying overage on a large bin. Light, bulky items — furniture, carpet, drywall — are the opposite: volume is your constraint, not weight, so size up. Not sure? See our accepted materials list.
Space on Your Property
Our bins are built for tight West Michigan driveways and narrow alleys where oversized 30–40 yard boxes simply won’t fit. Every delivery includes HDPE driveway protection boards (Rolliskate™) to keep your concrete and pavers safe — included at no extra charge.

Homeowner FAQs
What size dumpster do I need for a kitchen remodel?
A 17 yard bin handles most kitchen remodels — cabinets, countertops, flooring, and appliances. If you’re also doing bathrooms or adjacent rooms at the same time, step up to the 21 yard.
How much fits in a 21 yard dumpster?
About 13 pickup truck loads — enough for most full-home cleanouts or large renovation projects. Our 21 yard bin actually exceeds a standard industry 20 yard container, so you get more capacity than the name implies.
Can I switch to a larger size mid-project?
Yes. If you fill up faster than expected, contact us and we’ll swap in a larger bin. The sooner you let us know, the faster we can get it out to you.
Do dumpsters have weight limits?
Yes, each size includes a tonnage allowance — most homeowner loads stay well within it. The exception is heavy materials like concrete, dirt, or roofing shingles, which can hit limits faster. If that’s your project, mention it when booking and we’ll match you to the right tier. View our full rental terms and overage rates.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Not with us. Every delivery includes HDPE driveway protection boards (Rolliskate™) placed under the bin to distribute its weight and prevent cracking, scratching, or surface damage. It’s included on every drop — no extra charge, no need to ask.
What can’t go in the dumpster?
Hazardous waste, batteries, tires, and liquids are not accepted. Most household and renovation debris is fine. View the full prohibited materials list or check What Not to Put in Your Dumpster for the full guide.
