Dumpster Rental FAQs | Pricing, Permits, Sizes & Delivery

Dumpster Rental Basics

Choosing the right dumpster size depends on the scope of your project. Small cleanouts and bathroom remodels typically fit in a 12-yard dumpster, while roofing jobs and mid-sized renovations often need a 17– or 21-yard bin. Large remodels, construction projects, or multi-room cleanouts usually require a 25-yard dumpster. If you’re unsure, our team is happy to help you select the right size.

We offer flexible rental periods, including short-term and extended rentals. Most customers choose a 3- or 7-day rental, but longer durations are available for ongoing projects. If you need more time, just let us know—we’ll work with your schedule.

In many cases, we can offer next-day or even same-day delivery throughout Grand Rapids and West Michigan. Availability depends on bin size and demand, so booking online early is the best way to secure your preferred delivery date.

Our dumpsters are ideal for household junk, furniture, construction debris, roofing materials, wood, drywall, and yard waste. If you have a specific material in question, check our restricted items section or contact us before loading.

Pricing & Rental Details

Dumpster rental pricing varies by bin size and rental length. Neighborly Hauling offers clear, upfront pricing with no hidden fees. Your quoted price includes delivery, pickup, and a set weight allowance—so you know exactly what to expect.

Every rental includes drop-off, pickup, standard weight allowance, and driveway protection. We also provide clear guidance on loading and placement to help avoid unexpected charges.

If your dumpster exceeds the included weight allowance, an overage fee may apply. We keep overage pricing transparent and will always explain weight limits upfront so there are no surprises.

Our pricing is based on both rental duration and weight allowance. This approach keeps pricing fair and predictable for residential and commercial customers.

Driveways, Placement & Protection

No—driveway protection is included with every Neighborly Hauling dumpster rental. We use protective high density polyurethane  boards and careful placement techniques to help prevent cracking or surface damage, making our dumpsters safe for residential driveways.

Dumpsters are most commonly placed in driveways, parking areas, or job sites. If placement on a public street is required, a permit may be needed depending on your city.

You’ll need a clear, flat area roughly 50 feet long with overhead clearance for delivery. Our team will confirm placement details with you at drop-off.

Note: our truck is 25 feet long and we need space to align the bin.

Permits & Local Regulations

If the dumpster is placed on private property, a permit is usually not required. Placement on public streets or sidewalks may require a city permit. Local rules vary, so we recommend checking with your municipality.

Some homeowner associations have restrictions on dumpster placement or rental duration. It’s best to check with your HOA before scheduling delivery.

Prohibited & Restricted Materials

Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, batteries, tires, and fuel are not allowed. Electronics and appliances may also be restricted depending on disposal regulations.

Some appliances and mattresses may be accepted with prior approval or an additional fee. Contact us before loading these items so we can advise you properly. Note: we only charge what Kent County charges to dispose of these items, no markup.

Booking, Delivery & Pickup

You can book your dumpster rental online in just a few minutes. Choose your bin size, rental period, and delivery date—no phone calls required.

No. As long as the delivery location is clearly marked and accessible, you do not need to be present.
