Curbside roll-off dumpster delivery for residential customer in West Michigan

Neighborly Hauling dumpster delivery follows 8 steps: you choose a delivery window at booking, receive an SMS with live tracking when the driver departs, the driver squares the truck to your driveway, performs a 13-foot clearance check, lowers the bin in a controlled motion, places HDPE Rolliskate boards underneath, completes the final drop, and takes photos of the placement.

Delivery Process · Grand Rapids & West Michigan

Renting a dumpster should be the easy part of your project. Here’s exactly what happens from the moment you book to the moment the bin is sitting in your driveway — step by step, no surprises.

Before delivery day — set yourself up for a smooth drop

Clear the placement area — move vehicles, equipment, or anything in the bin’s landing spot

Keep the street in front clear — the truck needs room to line up straight with your driveway

Check overhead clearance — we need at least 13 feet of vertical clearance at the placement spot

Opt into SMS updates — you’ll receive live tracking and an ETA so you never have to wait by the window

The 8-Step Delivery Process

1

You choose your target delivery window

At booking

When you book, you select a delivery window — for example, 8 AM–11 AM. We schedule your drop-off inside that timeframe so you’re not waiting all day.

If you need a tighter window for contractor coordination, note it when booking and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

2

3

The square-up — aligning the truck

On arrival

The first thing the driver does on arrival is the square-up — aligning the truck straight with your driveway or placement area before backing in.

  • Prevents wheels from slipping into your lawn
  • Reduces driveway stress and tire scrubbing
  • Ensures the bin lands precisely where requested

Keep the street in front of your driveway clear — the truck needs room to line up before backing in.

4

Site inspection & 13-foot clearance check

Safety step

Before lowering the bin, the driver performs a quick site inspection. We require at least 13 feet of vertical clearance above the placement area.

  • Low-hanging wires and utility lines
  • Tree branches and overhanging vegetation
  • Gutters, eaves, or structural overhangs
  • Tight turning or backing angles

If anything poses a risk, the driver will work with you to find a safe placement alternative — rather than forcing a placement that could damage your property or our equipment.

5

Controlled placement begins — no drops, no slams

Hook-lift precision

Once the area is clear, the bin begins its controlled descent. The hook-lift system gives the driver precise control throughout — the rear of the bin is gently brought toward the ground, never dropped.

The entire process is smooth and intentional. We use hook-lift technology specifically because it allows placement in tighter spaces with less impact on the driveway than cable systems.

6

Rolliskate HDPE boards placed under the bin

Driveway protection
HDPE Rolliskate driveway protection boards placed under a Neighborly Hauling dumpster in a Grand Rapids residential driveway.

As the rear of the bin nears the ground, the driver places Rolliskate HDPE boards underneath. These are included on every delivery — no request needed, no extra charge.

  • Softer than concrete and asphalt — won’t gouge the surface
  • Won’t absorb moisture or splinter under load
  • Provide a stable, cushioned base during placement and pickup
  • Used on both ends — rear and front rails

Other companies use wood planks — or nothing at all. Wood can splinter, absorb moisture, and cut into your driveway as the bin rocks. HDPE doesn’t.

7

The final drop — bin rests on the boards, not your driveway

Zero contact

After the rear board set is in place, a second set is positioned at the front rails. The bin is then fully lowered onto the HDPE pads.

The bin never directly contacts your driveway. Steel on asphalt or concrete causes scraping and indentations — the Rolliskate boards prevent this entirely.

8

Photos taken — placement documented for both parties

On completion

Once the bin is set and secured, the driver photographs the placement. These photos protect both you and Neighborly Hauling by documenting:

  • The condition of the property at drop-off
  • Proper Rolliskate board placement
  • The bin’s position relative to your instructions
  • Any pre-existing property conditions

If there’s ever a question about driveway condition before vs. after the rental, the photos resolve it cleanly. Transparent service means documentation at every step.

Common Questions

Do I need to be home for dumpster delivery?

Not necessarily — as long as the placement area is clear and accessible. If you’re not home, make sure vehicles and obstacles are moved ahead of time, the area is accessible, and you’ve communicated the exact placement location when booking. SMS tracking lets you follow the delivery remotely so you can send any last-minute instructions.

What clearance does the truck need for delivery?

Neighborly Hauling requires at least 13 feet of vertical clearance at the placement area. Check for low-hanging power lines, tree branches, gutters, and utility wires. If the clearance is tight, mention it when booking so the driver comes prepared with a plan. The hook-lift system does help in tight spaces, but overhead clearance is a hard requirement.

Will dumpster delivery damage my driveway?

Not with Neighborly Hauling’s process. HDPE Rolliskate boards are placed under the bin on every delivery — the bin never contacts your concrete or asphalt directly. The hook-lift system also means the bin is lowered rather than dragged, eliminating the scraping common with cable roll-off systems. Read more about hook-lift delivery →

Can I choose exactly where the dumpster is placed?

Yes. Specify the placement location when booking — driveway, street, side yard, or elsewhere. The driver will follow your instructions and work around obstacles. If the requested location isn’t safe or accessible (tight overhead clearance, soft ground, blocked access), the driver will work with you on an alternative on arrival.

How much space does the truck need to make the delivery?

The truck needs enough room to align straight with the placement area before backing in. On a residential street this typically means one or two car lengths of clear street in front of your driveway. Parked cars directly in front of the driveway can prevent the square-up — if your street is tight, arrange for that space to be clear on delivery day.
